episode 18: 3 Benefits of a Positive Mental Attitude

In this episode, we have Makarand Utpat, an award-winning book author, speaker, business advisor, and social entrepreneur. His expertise in different topics such as digital marketing and personal development is sought out by others who want to turn crises or conflicts into opportunities. Today, Makarand explains why he likes being a hunter rather than being hunted and why it is important to have a positive mental attitude.

Personal Development

[0:45]

For Makarand, any endeavor, regardless of what kind people undertake, is always filled with a series of setbacks. He believes that society has a natural tendency to negative bias such as inner conflicts or tensions.

[1:34]

When dealing with an unknown or stressful situation, it is better to step out of that situation and start with a clean slate.

Problems as Challenges

[1:59]

There is a subtle difference between a problem and a challenge. Makarand wanted individuals to view setbacks as challenges rather than problems as people can accept and tackle them head-on. In contrast, issues can keep people in denial and wish it goes away on its own.

[2:55]

Problems inevitably lead people into blame games for their shortcomings, whereas challenges push people to take responsibility.

Opportunity to Improve

[3:38]

Having a positive mental attitude allows individuals to push beyond their limits and accepting the change rather than remaining constant.

[4:06]

Makarand believes that a positive mental attitude brings out the best in people and ourselves.

[4:30]

Knowing that change is inevitable, employing PMA allows us to remain in control no matter what changes happen around us. We remain focused on our goal or what we are committed to doing, producing creative solutions.

Various Outlooks

[5:01]

When presented with a glass half full, it may be described as half empty or half full. The only difference is how a person perceives the glass. As Makarand implies, the positive connotation is to see the glass as half full, where a person can always fill it back. He pointed out that there is still a fresh beginning. Despite not being in our control of the circumstances, people can control how they respond to that situation.
