episode 72: Embracing Developmental Differences: A Discussion on Down Syndrome with Jessica Egan

Jul. 27, 2020 – In this episode the girls sit down with Jessica Egan of @oursweetgwendolyn to hear her powerful story of perseverance and love.  Jessica opens up about raising her daughter Gwendolyn - a darling, red headed, curious, sweet, little girl who also has Down Syndrome.

Jessica begins by sharing the story behind her pregnancy and what a challenge it was for her to get pregnant.  She then relays her reaction to finding out that her unborn child might have the genetic mutation that leads to Down Syndrome - and the journey it was for her to process those emotions.  She shares her raw feelings and how she decided to 'dive in' and learn about the special needs community.

Jessica then opens up about some of the challenges that come with having a baby who has special needs but how there's a love there like she's never known.  The girls marveled throughout the interview how Jessica truly glowed when talking about her Gwendolyn and thought it was so evident how much she loves her little girl.

Jessica goes on to share some of the challenges Gwen has had with her heart and the struggle it's been for her to gain weight.  But how a positive attitude and embracing their support network has helped them through the hard days.   She then wraps up the discussion by sharing how she takes time for herself and the girls inquire on who/how she receives help (aka childcare).

The girls then wrap up the show with their hits and misses of the week including Lauren's hit of having her kids go fishing and Sarah's miss of how the kids are just living in their PJs.  Thanks so much for tuning in!  Follow the girls on Instagram @themomvoicepodcast or find them at www.mom-voice.com for all details, saving codes and items mentioned throughout the show.
