episode 34: A Desi Woman with Soniya Gokhale: A Conversation with Michigan State Representative Padma Kuppa


Michigan State Representative Padma Kuppa joins us to discuss her re-election for a second term as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from the 41st House District, which includes the cities of Troy and Clawson in Michigan. Padma is the first Indian immigrant and Hindu in the Michigan legislature. Throughout her life, Padma has sought to bring people together to solve problems, both in the professional world and in the community. She is a mechanical engineer and project manager, with a career that has spanned higher education, marketing, automotive, financial, and IT sectors. Representative Kuppa is currently President of the Troy Historical Society, a board member of the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion, and on the advisory councils for South Asian-American Voices for Impact, and The Great Lakes Political Academy. Padma is also serving a second term on the My STEM Council, and is encouraging a focus on STEAM in public education, which stands for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics, as she believes this is a critical foundation for a strong economy.
