Riot Grrrl: A Brief History

Hey grrrlies, in this episode we jump into the history of the Riot Grrrl movement, starting in Olympia in the early 90s as a backlash to the male-dominated Punk scene. We play some songs by some women in punk in the 70s who made this all possible: the Slits, X Ray Spex, and Patti Smith. Of course we delve into Kathleen Hanna (happy belated birthday!) and her projects which defined the movement: Bikini Kill, Le Tigre, and Julie Ruin. We get into some other first-gen Riot Grrrl acts, as well as some of my suggestions for some modern-day women and non-binary folks who deserve the title of Riot Grrrls just as much.

Love rock revolution girl style now!
