The scene is perfectly set for next week’s Klassiker! This is thanks to a slender 1-0 Dortmund win in Wolfsburg, and an unexpected 1-1 draw for Bayern at home to Freiburg. BVB’s lead is now up to four points, meaning that a win in next week’s game will give them a seven point gap. Bayern, however, will head in to the match at the Westfalenstadion in need of the win themselves. It promises to be a captivating match-up.

In other fixtures, it was another fantastic week for Eintracht Frankfurt as they breezed past a lacklustre VFB Stuttgart. They are now unbeaten in five and move up to fifth place. Stuttgart, meanwhile, sit dead last and are yet to even score, never mind pick up a point under new manager Markus Weinzierl. Things need to change, and fast.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde impersonation appears to show no signs of letting up. On the back of 6-2 and 5-0 victories, they lost 4-1 to Hoffenheim this weekend despite having the better chances. Once again, it is their defence that caused them problems, with Reiss Nelson and Joelinton in particular taking advantage for the visitors. Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig also earned impressive victories to consolidate Champions League spots. But as we know, in the Bundesliga, things can change very quickly.

The second round took place in midweek, throwing up the perfect opportunity to shed some light on the competition. We look at its peculiar structure and the history of the tournament, as well as the most recent draw.
