On this week’s show Rona Wightman, Secretary of St.Albans Cycle Campaign joined Amanda to explain why they had decided to devote the public meeting that’s part of their AGM to a talk by Dr.Martin Williams of Kings College London on air pollution and its effects on our health and climate change. Dr.Williams is a leading expert on the subject and has advised both DEFRA and the WHO.

You can hear him talk on Thursday 30th June at 7.30 at Dagnall Street Baptist Church and everyone is welcome. For more information on this and other cycle events take a look on the STACC website

Local Green Party councillor Simon Grover then told us how local green party members had used diffusion tubes to test air quality around the District. They had found 5 of 9 locations in city, including outside the St.Albans City Primary School, exceed safe pollution levels. They plan to test more locations later in the year, so if you are concerned about air pollution somewhere near you then get in touch with Simon so testing can be carried out there. Simon’s contact details are here

This week is National Insect Week (20-26 June) People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) are encouraging more members of the public to record any sightings of stag beetles as part of their annual Great Stag Hunt. If you missed our show on 18th April when we heard all about these amazing insects and what to do if you are lucky enough to see one, then you’ll find the podcast is still available.
