Anohni, Cliff Martinez, and Bat for Lashes
Anohni visited us ahead of two nights at the Barbican with music from her most recent album, Hopelessness – part dance record, part protest album, the project saw her collaborate with Oneohtrix Point Never and Hudson Mohawke to enter unchartered territory, both sonic and thematic. Former Red Hot Chilli Pepper and legendary film composer, Cliff Martinez joined Lauren with talk of his latest work, the score for Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon. He discussed his surprise ‘hit soundtrack’ with Drive, and cutting his teeth with Captain Beefheart. Bat for Lashes brought new album, The Bride, to life in the 6 Music Live Room, with a performance of two of its stand-out tracks. She detailed the concept behind the record, and revealed her cinematic and literary aspirations for the story.
