The Subversive Scribe

Welcome to The Subversive Scribe podcast where we investigate the Hebrew Bible – Genesis through Chronicles – its instructions, teaching and application. Learn how to interpret it correctly in context. Compare what it says in one part with another part, including and especially the New Testament. episode 6: Episode 6 - Would you believe me if I told you I saw Bigfoot flying a UFO and other Unverified Personal Experiences?

In this sixth episode of The Subversive Scribe podcast, show host Jesse “Hesh” Heshel discusses the question of if personal experience is a reliable source of knowledge, particularly in religious questions. We also discuss the problem of anecdotalism – you may experience something and a friend might but that doesn’t mean it is systematic or happening across the board.

There are multiple kinds of evidence and some have more weight than others. We discuss how that concept applies to the sacred text including the evidence of multiple witnesses which is the unique claim of Judaism in that God spoke to the people from the mountain and the nation all heard Him directly.

We discuss concerns such as time and eradication of contrary voices and finish with a discussion on Unverified Personal Gnosis (UPG) including personal religious experiences.
