episode 66: Rehabilitation, Support & Building a Brand with Nadia Power - Petey Performance Podcast #66

This episode of the podcast is with Irish International 800m & 1500m runner and Tokyo 2020 Olympian, Nadia Power.

Nadia is currently returning to the track following quite a serious foot injury. She has had a tough year, dealing with COVID and other illnesses as well as her plantar fascia tear, whilst simultaneously transitioning to a new coaching setup and training group overseas.

We spoke in depth about what spurred her recent move to London, her recent training camp in South Africa and how she has coped with the rehabilitation process of her first serious injury.

We talked about the importance of having the right coach at the right time in your career, and how her personal preference for feedback has changed through the years.

We also spoke about the added pressures that come along with an elite-level athletic career, which include building a personal brand and dealing with sponsors, as well as meeting new competitors and racing against your teammates.

Nadia is an incredibly driven individual and was brave to talk about her struggles in the past in relation to her relationship towards underperformance.

She spoke candidly about how she has done great work with Sport Psychologist, Jessie Barr, and her other coaches to develop a more rational approach towards performance at this stage of her career.

We also touched on how her parents and friends have been her ultimate supporters down through the years, despite having very different approaches towards how they deliver that support.

Nadia is currently undergoing the transition back onto the track and no doubt we'll be seeing her competing at the top level again sooner rather than later.
