Season 4 Episode 06 – Marco Tulio Molina Tejada, Deputy Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the World Trade Organization (WTO). Marco is one of the longest-serving Deputy Permanent Representatives to the WTO currently working In Geneva. If you know a bit about the WTO and/or International dispute settlement, you’ve probably heard about him. I have been meaning to invite him for a conversation. After a few hectic weeks, which led to the WTO concluding with has been hailed by some as one of the most successful WTO Ministerial Conferences, we found some time to sit and chat on this and a couple of other topics. Marco tells us how he got into the legal profession, primarily influenced by a long line of lawyers in his family. Then, he talks about how he got into International Trade and participated in negotiating Guatemala’s first Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Mexico. After a while, he made his way to Geneva, where he has been since 2004. He then shares insightful views on how multilateral negotiations have changed through the years and international dispute settlement. Lastly, we talked briefly about the 12th Ministerial Conference at the WTO, fresh in our minds after a very hectic week. It was an informative and enjoyable conversation. So wrap your ears around it!
