Melody Cheng, Helen Wu-Wang, and Janet Wang are the co-creators of AsianBossGirl, a multimedia company for the modern day Asian-American woman. AsianBossGirl was founded to share their experiences as 9-to-5 professional working women, balancing careers, social lives, cultural identities, and personal development while living in the city of Los Angeles. What started as a passion project podcast has turned into a multi-media business that they now run full-time. On their platforms, you’ll find conversations about the nuanced experience of being an Asian American woman navigating the corporate world as a person of color, mental and emotional health as children of immigrants, interviews with inspiring Asian women (and men), and even blind dates recorded on the mic. episode 62: Episode 62: Loneliness, Connection, and Online Dating
ABG is officially in season 6! With the stay-at-home order still in place, we continue to record from each of our own homes. By now, we are a little more settled into this new, temporary normal of social distancing, but it can be challenging to cope with the inevitable loneliness. In collaboration with Bumble, this episode is dedicated to ways we are dealing with loneliness and how we are connecting with others through online apps.
We discuss profile creation and evaluation tactics (we talk about wanting a horoscope filter, which you can actually find in the settings on your Bumble app!); how to start a conversation; and for those listeners like Helen who aren't on the search for a Boo anymore, our experiences with Bumble BFF (there's an option to hide date mode for users who are looking to make friends/network). We also appreciate that Bumble's priority is safety, and creating an inclusive/safe environment for it's users to make connections.
