Leading Questions with Calvin Moore S1 E2

This Week’s Panelists Nikki Pardo is the owner of Global Alliance Solutions, a diversity training company located in the city of Detroit. Nikki formerly worked with Wayne County Prosecutor’s office as department supervisor over the Victim’s Services Unit. She was assigned to the Homicide and Sex Crimes Unit, also serving as the coordinator for the Witness Protection Program. She is a board member of the Michigan Hispanic Police Officer’s Association. Harold Love was born and raised in Detroit. He now lives in Clarkston, Michigan where he has a private practice providing psychological services to police agencies and police officers in the form of counseling and crisis intervention. Harold also served with the Michigan State Police for 25 years, retiring in 2013 as a captain. Gregoire Eugene-Louis is a self-described “simple servant civilian.” Originally from Miami, Florida, Gregoire spent his formative years in the city of Detroit. An outspoken critic of the current police state in America, Gregoire’s Haitian background gives him a unique perspective on policing in the United States, especially in the urban context. Our Questions 1. What are your first thoughts when you hear an unarmed civilian has been shot and killed by the police? 2. Is there a “Blue Code of Silence” when it comes to claims of police brutality? To put it bluntly, do you believe police protect their own, even when officers are accused of criminal acts against the public? 3. Why do you think that the same narrative seems to play out when this happens—civilian shot, public outcry, claims to victim criminality, police put on paid administrative leave, internal investigation and examination of police procedures, police exonerated? 4. How do you believe police departments can begin to repair the breach, real or perceived? 5. What role do minority communities play in regards to creating ways forward? NOTE: Opinions expressed in this podcast are the opinions of the panelists. They should not be considered an endorsement by Leading Questions with Calvin Moore or the viewpoint of organizations represented by individuals in a public, professional context.
