Die Geschichte der Verhütungsmittel birgt nicht nur einige spannende und düstere Geheimnisse. Unsere Moderatorin Charlotte geht diesen auf den Grund. Zum Beispiel verrät sie uns, was Kondome mit Schwefel zu tun haben, und weshalb Hormon nicht gleich Hormon ist. Wie sind die Verhütungsmittel zusammengesetzt und wie funktionieren sie chemisch? Auch darauf gibt es eine Antwort. Abschließend bringt uns Charlotte bis in die Gegenwart – in der überraschend wenige Verhütungsmittel für Männer bekannt sind!

Im Zuge meiner Recherche stieß ich auf Percy Lavon Julian ebenfalls ein erfolgreicher Chemiker, der zu Steroiden aus Pflanzen forschte. Gründete zeitgleich mit Russell Marker ebenfalls eine Firma zur Herstellung von Progesteron aus Pflanzensteroiden. Seine Firma zeigte allerdings nicht den gleichen Erfolg wie Syntex. Dies hatte verschiedene Gründe. Dass allerdings Rassismus ebenfalls eine Rolle im Misserfolg von Julian Laboratories Inc. spielt, lässt sich nicht ausschließen. Um seine Julians Forschung hier dennoch wenigstens etwas Raum zu geben, hier noch einige Informationsquellen:
