Profile:Mark Mangini/Sound Effects Editor/Oscar Winner/Mad Max:Fury Road


Mutiple Oscar-nominee and most recentlywinner of his first Academy Award for Mad Max: Fury Road and is also the Governor of the Sound Branch for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, Mark Mangini is one of the world's top sound designers one of the most well-respected experts in his field. Starting in sound effects work in the 1970’s for cartoons like “Scooby-Doo” and “Godzilla,” he quickly transitioned to feature films in the 1980’s, among them Oscar nominees and winners Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Poltergeist, Sex, Lies, and Videotape, and Star Trek IV, which earned him his first Oscar nomination for Best Effects-Sound Effects Editing. His next two would be for Disney’s Aladdin and Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element (the film’s only nomination). Mangini is also a globally sought-after speaker and lecturer. He seeks to inspire his fellow artists with his efforts to change how they are viewed within the filmmaking process. Among his long list of achievements, Mangini is also renowned for recording and editing the new roar track for Leo the Lion (MGM's lion mascot), and most recently, he served as the supervising sound editor for the critically acclaimed films Black Mass and Mad Max: Fury Road.
