episode 88: My Agility Coaching Process - Petey Performance Podcast #88

Today’s solo podcast covers my process for coaching change of direction and agility.

After posting a lot of content relating to speed, agility & gamespeed in recent months, I've been receiving an influx of messages from coaches & athletes alike, in relation to how I go about integrating COD & agility coaching/training.

Before I go any further I must give special mention to some coaches who have heavily influenced my development and thoughts in this area, including Sam Portland, Alan Murdoch, Jonas Doodoo, Graeme Morris, Justin Lang, and Jeff Moyer.

Over the course of this episode I explain my rationale behind a progressive approach to agility training and why I think about it the way that I do.

I go into depth on the the importance of understanding the game, as well as learning theory in relation to the stages of competence model and theories of motor learning.

I also go into detail on the part of the process that I believe is often overlooked, visual scanning, pattern recognition, perception and action.

And finally, I take you through my 8-stage process of building up to match-play from isolated change of direction movements.

1. General Movement Execution

2. General Movement Execution in Response to a Stimulus
