The three trainings of the Buddha’s noble eightfold path purify our speech and behavior by restraint, purify the mind by mindfulness, and purify our understanding through insight. The journey of awakening insight traverses the heart’s terrain of pain and suffering and the “spiritual goodies” of joy, bliss and beyond, as well as the fear and disillusionment of the “rolling-up-the-mat” stages of knowledge of dukkha, and the smooth cruise of equanimity toward the goal of awakening. Steve will share the map of this journey as revealed in the recently published English translation of the Manual of Insight by Mahāsi Sayadaw. Steve was the Managing Editor of this book.
