episode 1: PART THREE of 4 - Perseverance - Chapter 16 - The Christian Life by Sinclair B. Ferguson

PART ONE of 4 - Perseverance - Chapter 16 - The Christian Life by Sinclair B. Ferguson with Pastor William Shifflett. “There is the hindrance of a heart which does not allow the Word of God to penetrate.” Hebrews 4:2 - For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened. This ‘hindrance of heart’, does it come from the listener or from God? 2.Rocky Soil. Mark 4:16 And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. 17 And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. Lost or saved? “It is not possible for sinful men and women to rejoice in the forgiveness of sins and life everlasting without knowing some kind of sorrow for their sin.” 2 Corinthians 6:10 - as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything. 3.Thorny Soil. Mark 4:19 - but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. Lost or saved? 4.Good Soil. Mark 4:20 But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold. Lost or saved? Since we are using the word ‘heart’, would it be fair to say the good soil is a heart of flesh? The Christian’s Means of perseverance. “There is probably no stronger encouragement to us to persevere than the knowledge that God is persevering with us.” “never leave us or forsake us” “we are in the hands of Christ and His father’s hands” 1.The Word of God. Psalm 119:11 - I have stored up your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Is there a neglect of the Word of God in the present day Church? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/biblebulldog0/message
