Walk Good: African and Caribbean Folktales

We share African and Caribbean folktales for the enjoyment of those young and young at heart, both at "home" and living in the African/Caribbean diaspora. Stories are retold by our storyteller Kesha Christie, the founder of Talkin' Tales. Our culture has a rich oral tradition and we seek to preserve it by educating and entertaining audiences with stories passed down from generation to generation.

episode 18: Do we celebrate Halloween???

"We don't believe inna dat...or do we?"

It may not be customary to decorate houses, put on costumes and go trick or treating.  But that does not mean that we do not believe in things that go bump in the night.

The Caribbean islands share folklore about the otherworld from superstitions to warnings.

It is said best " ghost stories are to scare you but duppy tales are to warn you" (C.J. Farley)

Join us for our mini series leading up to Halloween, talking about our superstitions, culture and stories.  Our first story is in this episode.

Stories in this episode:

1. God comes to us like just another person (Garifuna Folklore)

2. Rainy Day Duppy Stories #12-35 by C.J. Farley (Jamaica)
