Walk Good: African and Caribbean Folktales

We share African and Caribbean folktales for the enjoyment of those young and young at heart, both at "home" and living in the African/Caribbean diaspora. Stories are retold by our storyteller Kesha Christie, the founder of Talkin' Tales. Our culture has a rich oral tradition and we seek to preserve it by educating and entertaining audiences with stories passed down from generation to generation.

episode 6: Crucian Chant - Folktales from St. Croix


St. Croix is the largest of the virgin islands and the culture is a mixture of Native Carib & Taino, African, European & American.

The people are know are Crucians and the language spoken is English, previously Danish and Spanish is widely spoken.

National Dish Pot Fish and Fungi it's fried fish cornmeal (similar to Coo coo in Barbados) served with steam veggies

2. St. Croix's Nickname is Twin City

3. St. Croix has the largest Agricultural Fair in the Caribbean.  Agrifest is a 3 day festival showcasing locally grown produce, sties, dance and more.  Takes place in February
