Walk Good: African and Caribbean Folktales

We share African and Caribbean folktales for the enjoyment of those young and young at heart, both at "home" and living in the African/Caribbean diaspora. Stories are retold by our storyteller Kesha Christie, the founder of Talkin' Tales. Our culture has a rich oral tradition and we seek to preserve it by educating and entertaining audiences with stories passed down from generation to generation.

episode 8: Creole Folktales - Guadeloupe


Guadeloupe is located north of Dominica and southeast of Puerto Rico.

The culture on the island is French African and Indian and the language spoken is French & Creole.

Guadeloupe is know for its beaches, scenery and of course island rum.  The national disk is call Porc Columbo, its seasoned pork stewed  - Caribbean & co.

Fun facts about the island:

1. Guadeloupe looks like a butterfly

2. It's home to an active volcano

3. two seasons Jan-Jun "Lent" and July  - Dec "Winter"

4. Guadeloupe is considered a part of France on if 5 overseas territories

5. Original was Karukera as named by the indigenous people
