Let us summarise what we have learnt so far. Parts of speech deals with the part played by a word in a sentence. There are 8 parts of speech based on British grammar. They are noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, preposition, interjection and conjunction. A noun is a naming word. A pronoun is a word that is used instead of a noun. An adjective is a word that qualifies a noun or pronoun. A verb says something about the subject. It can be an action, event or status of an event. We have discussed about action verbs, stative verbs, transitive verbs, intransitive verbs, linking verbs, helping verbs, modal verbs, regular verbs, irregular verbs and phrasal verbs in this episode.
