#55 On Charity & Community- L.A. Kitchen

This week on Radio Headspace I’ll be speaking to Robert Egger, founder of DC Central Kitchen and more recently, the L.A. Kitchen. Robert is known for his innovative approach to food charity and volunteerism, and the L.A. Kitchen is a real example of this. Alongside volunteers, students and graduates from the L.A. Kitchen’s culinary program work together to make healthy meals (predominantly from leftover and discarded produce) to feed those most in need, and feed them well. We talk about kindness and charity a lot on this podcast, and this episode explores the idea of charity done in a different and more collaborative way. As well as speaking to Robert in our studio, I also went to the L.A. Kitchen during a volunteer event to ask some of the volunteers and graduates of the program about their experiences. As always if you want to get in touch with us please do at radio@headspace.com, and if you enjoyed this episode, please take a second to subscribe to Radio Headspace on iTunes.
