After Eight Show - 09/08/16
This week, we presented part 1 of our Mercury Prize special. The shortlist of nominated albums came out during the previous week and we played tracks by Radiohead, Laura Mvula, Bat For Lashes, Jamie Woon as well as from Blackstar (album) - the posthumous album from the incomparable David Bowie.
We also had new music from some great musicians including Wily Bo Walker, Bear's Den, The Mighty Bosscats feat. Richard Townend, Sunflower Bean, Macy Todd, WILSEN, Chris Watkins/Drunk Poets and many others. This week's Luvva Cover was a version by Janis Joplin of a famous song that you would never imagine she would have performed - but it's stunning! Add to that a tribute to one of the great, but sadly overlooked, jazz / R&B /soul singers from the past who died in early August 1984 and I believe this was one of our best shows ever!
