Making Music Touches The Soul

What does music have to do anything with Foster childern? Foster kids, once they age out of the system (typically around 18 years old), have an unemployment rate of 47%. Nearly 50% of former foster children are homeless with 18 months of release from the system, and 80% of the prison population is made up of former foster youth. (*)

Amped Kids Foundation (501 (c) 3 organization) believes in building a community of support, and empowering our foster youth for a better future. It's a known fact that children who are involved in music education programs have higher academic scores, higher graduation rates, and and stronger relationships. Amped Kids provides instruments to kids, along with professional music lessons, songwriting workshops, band scholarships, and other unique music experiences, bringing mentorship, healing, support, and connection to children. Founded in Georgia by April Rooks, she brought Dave Craver from "Micro Music Festivals" on board as President, who along with Music City's own Will Carter are working on opening new chapters across the nation, starting right here in Nashville, TN.

If you are someone who has a musical instrument that is no longer being used, and want to make a difference in a foster child's life, then check out this episode, and listen to what Dave and Will have to share about what Amped Kids are doing to change lives.
