How to Keep a Church from Unraveling: Purity, Possessions, & Power
In Paul's "succession speech" to the church leaders at Ephesus, he tells them to pay careful attention to three things so as not to come unraveled and fall into apostasy: purity, possessions, and power. We strengthen our churches by heeding Paul's warnings and staying focused on the core of the gospel message. Important themes in this message: the church as a counter-cultural community, the faithful interpretation of scripture, generosity and care for the poor, and the power of the cross lived out in self-sacrificial service.
