1.The resurrection.

Colossians 1:27 - To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Without the cross, there is no resurrection and without the resurrection, there is no Christianity.

“Because Jesus lives in resurrection power, so shall we live.”

Romans 1:4 - and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by His resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

Romans 6:8-10 - Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him. 9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death He died-He died to sin, once for all, but the life He lives He lives to God.

In glorification we live. Do we live to God? What does that mean?

Philippians 3:20-21 - But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body, by the power that enables Him even to subject all things to Himself.

What does it mean to have citizenship in heaven?

2.The Transformation.

“The change.”

Romans 8:29 - For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that He might be the firstborn among many brothers.

This verse is sometimes used in talking about sanctification. Is is describing glorification, sanctification or both?

How is glorification different from sanctification?

A.Like a seed planted.

1 Corinthians 15:35-36 - But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?” 36 You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 

We live in a different time now. When I was growing up, most families I knew had a garden.

How do we explain these verses to those who don’t know how planting works?

B.Our bodies will be different.

1 Corinthians 15:42-44 - So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. 43 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. 44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

Will we have a natural body, a physical body or a spiritual body?

C.The body belongs to a different (heavenly) order.

1 Corinthians 15:51-54 - Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

V53 says, “we must put on the imperishable”. Can anyone enter heaven without being glorified?

Is it true to say that the resurrection of Jesus removed the sting of death, and the resurrection of the saints will swallow up death in victory?
