Beyond the Shadow of Doubt™

I have come to learn for myself that the opposite of faith is not doubt, but rather the opposite of faith is certainty! Having doubt is to be fundamentally human & asking questions is the first step to finding answers and clarity. Let’s shed the shadow of shame cast on doubt and instead seek and find clarity that only comes with asking questions.

episode 11: Episode 11. Cognitive Dissonance and the Gap

I think it’s really important to not just consider that there’s a gap but absolutely acknowledge that one exists. By doing so, we then acknowledge that there is in fact a need for a bridge of some kind. It’s in the acknowledging that there’s something missing between point A and point B that we see the need for a bridge. Point A and B are both very important and so valuable to us, it’s not just worth our time to build a bridge to connect them— it’s absolutely essential...

episode 10: Episode 10. The Gap

When the tenets of one’s faith and the realities of your LIVED experience, your firsthand experience—are in stark contrast the cognitive dissonance is overwhelming. It can be paralyzing. There have been times that it has been so for me. If that is you—I feel you, I see you, I get you.   According to the Hafen's in Faith is Not Blind, "Our experience with real life often introduces a new dimension—a growing awareness of a gap between the real and the ideal, between what IS and what OUTGHT to be...

episode 9: Episode 9. Own your questions; claim personal authority

In this episode I explore how faith and doubt can co-exist without it being a problem.  We cannot have and exercise FAITH if uncertainty and doubt do not exist.  When we resist, deny or ignore our questions/doubts, we are being dishonest to ourselves.  We give ourselves permission to have them through acknowledging their presence.  We can choose to let go of the shame that often accompanies having questions/doubts...

episode 8: Episode 8. The Opposite of Shadow is Light

I grew up in AZ and I remember always being on the lookout for shadows esp in summertime.  Finding a shadow meant shade and shade meant RELIEF-the sidewalk covered by the shadow was at least 10-15 degrees cooler than the surrounding area.  A shadow is a dark area where light from a light source is blocked by an opaque object.  It is created when something (an object) is blocking the light keeping whatever is beyond it in darkness...

episode 7: Episode 7. Doubt ≠ Unbelief

“The word “doubt” is an uncomfortable one in most Christian circles. It’s something that is frowned upon or even condemned in many church circles. But that doesn’t stop us from doubting; it just makes doubting shameful for many of us. We don’t know what to do with it, who to talk to about it, or how to talk about it. We just know that our questions feel like they are pulling us away from God.” -Barnabas Piper, Christian Author...

episode 6: Episode 6. What about free will?

Have you ever heard the phrase encouraging you to "doubt your doubts?"  Recently in a testimony meeting it was shared and it left me in a place of confusion, kind of a stupor of thought you could say.   To say you should doubt your doubts is like saying it's not ok to change your mind.  To me that begs the question, where does free will fit in? Have a listen and then I'd love to hear your take on this episode.  (Link for Thomas Edison quote: https://www.linkedin...

episode 5: Episode 5. “Crash Theory”

Today's episode is a little longer because I get a little more personal (plus last week's was shorter)!  If you've not ever heard of "Crash Theory" by Rabbi Benay Lappe, then buckle up as I share with you how I navigated when my "Master Story" crashed a few years ago.  (sources referenced: BTB podcast episode “Crash and Learn” 11/23/2020 https://beyondtheblockpodcast.com/episodes/crash-and-learn-ether-1215-s1!f9e05; CRASH THEORY by Rabbi Benay Lappe: YouTube...

episode 4: Episode 4. Doubts, Mental Health, Suicide prevention

Having my own struggles with mental health since my teen years I’m grateful for a different world my children are growing up in.  In this episode I address how doubts and either the allowing or denying of them can affect mental health.  September is also suicide prevention month.  As mentioned in the episode, here are the show links: FREE QPR (suicide prevention) training offered by Mama Dragons (https://www.mamadragons.org/suicide-prevention-training) and Lift & Love (https://www.liftandlove...

episode 3: Episode 3. The Anatomy of a Belief

Join me as I attempt to dissect this concept of a belief.  I think where we feel threatened as humans in challenging or questioning a belief is when we forget to come back to the basics of what a belief actually is.  We forget that we got to choose it in the first place; we may not even realize that we did in fact chose it.  Or we may not realize that it's a belief that we have borrowed and not yet made it our own.  Grab your gloves and a scalpel and join me for "class...

episode 2: Episode 2. Life coaching v. therapy-what's the difference?

I am a Life Coach certified through the Life Coach School. I was also trained as a School Counseling Psychologist in graduate school. I find it fascinating how closely related life coaching is to counseling and therapy, yet each serves a different part of the human experience and psyche. I’m often asked what the difference is between the two.  Listen in as I share with you the primary differences.  Let's connect: https://meaganskidmorecoaching.com.
