The Lakers played three great quarters against Indiana Monday, before blowing a huge lead in the fourth quarter. Wednesday against Portland, they again built up a huge lead in the final period, but decided this time to finish strong. The result: a 128-109 win over Portland at the Crypt...
The Lakers are trending up as they head out for a six game road trip...
For much of the early season, there was an intense focus on the performance of Anthony Davis, and how it wasn't bad, exactly, but was definitely disappointing and not nearly at the level the Lakers need to be successful this season. But over the last seven or so games, that has definitely changed. Meanwhile, LeBron James hasn't just struggled with his health, dealing with a series of maladies (including an ankle issue that could keep him out of tonight's game against Portland)...
LeBron hasn't been his normal, uber-elite self this year, and it's impacting the Lakers in a big way...
What could go wrong late did, and the Lakers lost a game they shouldn't have...
Through three quarters, the Lakers were on track for their best, most impressive win of the season. The kind of game that would validate winning five of six against lesser competition. Nothing went well for the Lakers down the stretch...
The Lakers were once 2-10. Today, after winning five of six, they'll enter Monday's game against Indiana (one of only six home games between now and early January) with a 7-11 record. Still not good, but trending in the right direction. And most of that progress has happened without a full roster available to them...
LeBron James and Anthony Davis should both be available as the Lakers start a difficult stretch...
The Lakers kick off a critical back-to-back Friday in San Antonio, and presumably LeBron James will be on the floor, hopefully for both ends. In his absence, the Lakers have found a little rhythm offensively (albeit against weaker competition) and Anthony Davis has gone bananas, in terms of his overall production. So the question for the team becomes figuring out ways to keep Davis in the space he's in with James back on the floor...
Plus, Patrick Beverley is gone for three games.
