Zu Gast ist diesmal Gesa Jäger, Editorin von „Das Lehrerzimmer“ (ab 4. Mai im Kino) und Co-Editorin der Netflix-Serie „Unorthodox“. Ich unterhalte mich mit Gesa über ihre Werke und warum es ihr wichtig ist, bei der Arbeit achtsam mit sich umzugehen.
Gesa Jäger schloss ihr Hochschulstudium an der Filmuni Konrad Wolf mit „Love Steaks“ von Jakob Lass ab. Hier jonglierte sie mit über 70 Stunden Material. Das bekommen andere Editor*innen nicht mal bei mehreren Projekten zusammen. Für Gesa fühlte sich das gar nicht an, wie eine Feuertaufe. Sie war damit beschäftigt, die Geschichte der Figuren aus den Performances der Schauspieler*innen herauszudestillieren und darüber den Film zu erzählen. Denn das ist ihr Job.
KollaborationDas Studium und die besondere Herausforderung der Improprojekte waren der Startschuss für Gesa Jägers Karriere. Neben weiteren Projekten mit Jakob Lass und dessen Kameramann Timon Schäppi finden sich Dokumentarfilme, Serien und immer wieder preisgekrönte Werke. Zudem wurde Gesa Mitglied der Deutschen Filmakademie und der Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science, die die Oscars verleiht.

In 2019 wurde Gesa eine besondere Ehre zu Teil. Die Filmkunsttage Sachsen-Anhalt verliehen Gesa Jäger den Filmkunstpreis Sachsen-Anhalt/Special Schnitt und widmeten ihr eine Werkschau. Der Dokumentarfilm „Dreamaway“ von den Regisseurinnen Johanna Domke und Marouan Omara lief im gleichen Jahr auf dem Filmplus-Festival 2019. Jägers Montage wurde mit dem „Bild Kunst Schnitt“-Preis Dokumentarfilm ausgezeichnet. Aktuell ist Gesa für ihre Arbeit an „Das Lehrerzimmer“ sowohl für den Deutschen Kamerapreis als auch für den Deutschen Filmpreis nominiert.
