Clare's ASTI Rep Calls On Education Minister To Provide Indicative Date For Leaving Cert Results

Clare's ASTI representative is calling on the Education Minister to provide an indicative date for the leaving cert results in order to avoid undue stress for students and parents. It comes after Minister Norma Foley warned the State Examinations Commission has commitments to sort out before it can choose a date. Clare FM's Fiona Cahill reports: ==== Students are still in the dark over when the leaving cert results will be ready this year. It's just under six weeks until the exams begin, but the Department of Education has yet to publish an exact date. The Education Minister has said it's her preference to have a date for the Leaving Cert results as soon as possible, but Norma Foley has warned the State Examinations Commission has a "significant" body of work for the exams. That includes arrangements to make sure grades don't fall off a cliff compared to the Covid years. A shortage of examiners last year meant the results were not issued until the beginning of September and Clare's ASTI representative says both students and parents don't want to see a repeat of that. Geraldine O'Brien says there's growing concern about the dearth of accommodation among other issues and she's appealing to the Minister to publish an indicative date. [CLIP] A Kilkee Principal says the lack of clarity provides particular issues for those hoping to attend college in Norther Ireland or outside the state. Agnes Hehir says she doesn't understand how this wasn't seen coming after last year.
