HSE CEO Says Immediate Focus Remains On Increasing Capacity Before 24/7 MAU Service

The CEO of the HSE says they're yet to see any indication that opening the MidWest's Medical Assessment & Local Injury Units on a 24 hour basis would make any 'substantial' difference. In April, the UL Hospitals Group received €5.2 million in funding to extend a seven-day service to all of the region's model two hospitals and maintain the week-round service at Ennis General, in a bid to combat persistent overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick. Last week, the government pledged to roll out the facilities on a 24 hour basis at Ennis, Nenagh & St. John's following a private members motion on the matter. HSE CEO, Bernard Gloster says, however, that while the provision of around the clock service won't be ruled out, the immediate focus is to increase the capacity at the region's LIU & MAUs.
