The Minister for Public Expenditure has committed to increasing finances available for towns and villages in Clare without access to wastewater infrastructure. The government announced a €50 million pilot plan last April to establish essential sewage treatment facilities in unswered communities nationwide. However, the cost of works required for vibrant tourist settlements in Clare such as Doolin, Spanish Point ,Miltown Malbay & Carrigaholt are mooted to surpass the entire national fund. Responding to a query from Scariff-based Independent TD Michael McNamara, Minister Pascal Donohoe assured the scheme would be reconsidered.
