Claims UHL Management Changes Will Help To Solve Overcrowding Crisis

A Clare member of the Oireachtas Health Committee is confident that UHL's management restructuring is a positive step towards solving its overcrowding crisis. It comes following the publication of the findings of an unannounced HIQA inspection at the region's main hospital, which found the hospital to be partially compliant in three of the four areas assessed and non-compliant in one area, with overcrowding in the emergency department identified as being of particular concern. The inspection was a follow-up on a previous inspection in 2021 which found that management arrangements were not in place to support the delivery of a safe and high quality service. It was noted that since the initial inspection, a senior manager on site has been appointed which will serve to improve the overall daily operational running of the hospital. Ennistymon Senator Martin Conway says the changes in management have led to a better-functioning service at UHL.
