An incident room has been set up at Ennis Garda Station following a shooting incident in a Clarecastle Housing Estate over the weekend. The incident's prompted calls on the local authority to take the the strongest possible action to ensure local residents feel safe in their homes. Just after half past six on Saturday evening, a man and his wife were standing outside their home in Church Drive, Clarecastle, when they saw the occupants of a dark Nissan car acting suspiciously. A second car, a silver Audi, subsequently came into the estate and the front seat passenger fired a shot towards the house, resulting in one of the residents receving a gunshot wound to the hand. A man was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment for non-life threatening injuries. Clare' Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Triona Brooks is appealing for witnesses to come forward. The incident has propted calls for Clare County Council to use all enforcement powers at its disposal to ensure those living in the area feel safe in their homes. A video of the incident, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows a woman and child in close proximity when the firearm was discharged. Local Fine Gael Councillor Paul Murphy believes the full wrath of the Local Authority is required.
