Fresh Calls For Increase In Sugar Tax
Researchers from the Technological University of the Shannon are calling for an increase in the sugar tax. It comes in light of a UK Journal of Public Health article, which identified that many retailers are not passing on the cost of the tax to the consumers. Researchers at TUS believe the tax should be doubled for drinks that contain more than five grams of sugar per 100 millilitres to give the tax the dissuasive impact that was intended. Director of the Social Sciences ConneXions research institute at TUS, Dr Frank Houghton reminds people why the sugar tax was first introduced.
