The Create Unknown

The Create Unknown interviews the most successful online creators to reveal how they got started and how they keep going. iDubbbz. Vsauce. Casey Neistat. iJustine. PsychicPebbles. We talk to the YouTubers, artists, and streamers who exemplify our mantra of “Make Something. Mean Something.” Part high-level analysis, part hopelessly stupid, Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor from Vsauce2 dissect the complex business, the unpredictable drama, and the uncertain future of creating online. Get Comfortable Being Weird

Nearly every successful person ever has had one thing in common – they’re all WEIRD. If you’re looking for any kind of success, or if you’re just looking to stand out, you’re gonna need to get used to being weird too. But don’t worry, that’s where we come in.

Kevin starts things off by touching on a video from Mark Manson that inspired today’s discussion. If you haven’t seen it yourself, check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZJpU43NA0c&ab_channel=MarkManson

After a brief detailing of Matt’s history with magazine subscriptions, Kevin tells us about the early days of his YouTube career. YouTube wasn’t really much of anything back then, let alone a career, so it’s no shock that people thought he was weird for investing so much time into it. Matt also tells us about his own weirdness around the same time as he gallivanted across the European continent for no discernible reason.

Then we transition to some actionable advice. Kevin gives some killer tips on how to be comfortable in accepting your strangeness, Matt lets us in on the secret to shrugging off the criticism, and we talk about the shockingly small size of the “tiny weirdo club.”

After that, we get serious – literally. We talk a bit about what it actually means to lead a serious life, and how confronting that reality can be tough. We mention some of our most deceptively serious TCU alumni, and we highlight some of the common misconceptions about getting serious altogether.

We finish off the episode by discussing just how important it is to GET OUT into the real world and experience all these things first hand. It really does bring a different meaning to it all that you just can’t find anywhere else.

Thanks to everyone who joined us live this week, and thanks to our ever-supportive patrons. We’ll be back again next week!
