An Ennis disability activist believes the loss of supports when entering jobs is preventing people with disabilities from maintaining employment. It comes as a new report from the European Disability Forum reveals Ireland has the joint-lowest rate of employment in for people with disabilities in Europe along with Greece, with just 32.6% in employment here compared to the EU average of 51%. The EDF's social policy officer claims the loss of disability allowance when a person starts working is leading to a fear of "in-work poverty". Clare Leader Forum member Dermot Hayes says there is a "nervousness" felt by people with disabilities when entering employment due to the loss of supports.
