episode 14: Just A Kid From Congo: Understanding Your Why and Giving Everything You Have (Jeannot Basima, Guard, Yale '27)

014 (C/P): In this episode, I speak with Jeannot Basima, one of my players who has just completed his high school career and is about to begin his career at Yale. Jeannot is from the Democratic Republic of Congo and he shares insight about:

  • Growing up in Congo
  • Coming to the U.S.
  • Understanding your why
  • Staying focused through adversity
  • Leadership
  • The opportunity to attend Yale

Jeannot has some powerful ideas to share with players and coaches alike. It meant a lot to me to be able to do this interview and I hope you enjoy.

Here is a link to the documentary, Congo-USA Basketball PJB Goma, Kivu, by Youcef Ouldyassia that depicts growing up in Goma, the work of the PJB Academy, and the journey to the U.S. for two players (Jeannot Basima and Cesar Tchilombo).

Funds raised  by this page will be split as follows:

  • 75% will go to support PJB in Congo: scholarships to local schools, as well as support of the basketball and life skills programs;
  • 25% will be used to cover the costs of bringing players to the US for basketball summer camps and incidentals after they join schools (travel, partial tuitions, insurance, books, etc.)

The use of funds by this organization is audited and the report is available to donors upon request.
