A former Mayor of Ennis has expressed disappointment over what's he's described as the "blocking of common sense" when it comes to the ongoing closure of O'Connell Street in the town centre. Councillor Johnny Flynn has raised concern over "traffic chaos" caused to residents and businesses in Ennis due to the essential Water main replacement project, which has led to the ongoing closure of the street to traffic during the hours of 11.30am and 4.30pm. The Fine Gael representative has called on the Council Executive to re-open the street while there's no public infrastructure work being carried out. Clare County Council says, however, that as it's one-way street, doing so would have negligible impact on any congestion currently being experienced due to works currently taking place on the Clon Road. Councillor Flynn says some businesses are reporting losses of up to 70% in revenue on account of the closure and he insists it's having a negative impact on traffic flow across the town.
