episode 1436: Would Kyrie Irving Give Up $30M to Join the Lakers? Plus, the Importance of Kendrick Nunn...

Wednesday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski laid out more reporting around Kyrie Irving and his standoff with the Brooklyn Nets. Irving's only realistic path (at least currently) to the Lakers is one that requires him to opt out of his contract, leave over $36 million on the table, and instead sign with the Lakers for just over $6 million.

No player has ever left that much money unclaimed. it's worth noting that Irving lost out on $17 million or so last season by not getting vaccinated and missing games, and also tens of millions via a lost sponsorship with Nike. So does that mean he's an unpredictable loose cannon who would do even the most unusual, unprecedented things around his finances? Or does it mean he's more incentivized to gets some of that cash back?

Meanwhile, Kendrick Nunn picked up his $5.2 million option this week, no surprise since it's exactly what he said he'd do during his exit interview. For a team as strapped as the Lakers, adding Nunn back into the mix is the equivalent to getting an extra free agent signing. The guy didn't play a second last year. His presence is 100% new. So how important a role will he play?

Jordan Ott has joined the Lakers coaching staff. It means Darvin Ham has added another coach with whom he's worked (Ham and Ott were in the org at the same time a few years ago in Atlanta), and who doesn't have head coaching experience. Is that a big deal?

Finally, it's Draft night? What will the Lakers do? Can they buy a pick or two in the second round? How much movement should we expect from them, and other teams around the league?
