episode 1759: Scouting Report: Christian Wood (and JaVale McGee?) with Nick Angstadt, Locked On Mavs
Lakers Nation has been focused on that 14th player, who GM Rob Pelinka promises will be another big to help back up Anthony Davis. That's centered the conversation around Bismack Biyombo, and of course Christian Wood, who was with the Mavericks last season and clearly will not be returning to Dallas this year.
So after extensive scouting reports on the players the Lakers have acquired, it's time for one they're interested in acquiring.
Nick Angstadt, host of Locked On Mavs, joins to break down the problems with Wood's game, and explain why the Mavs (and the rest of the league, apparently, isn't interested in giving him anything close to the type of money his stats would suggest he deserves.
Spoiler alert: It's more than just his total lack of defense, he says.
Still, would Wood make sense? How about former Laker JaVale McGee, who isn't expected to return to the Mavs this season and would, almost instantly, be tied to the Lakers as a potential signee.

Meanwhile, in some ways the Mavs are like the Earth 4 version of the Lakers. They have Jason Kidd, once thought of as a potential, even likely, head coach for the purple and gold. They have Kyrie Irving, who was closely tied to the Lakers for a long time. They have McGee! They also have had a star-fueled mentality that has cost them depth in ways reflecting not-so-long-ago approaches the Lakers have taken to roster building.
