From hoo-ha to dingaling, from foo foo to weiner, in almost every family there’s no shortage of safe words parents come up with to describe private parts to their kids.

In the family of award winning writer director Robert O’Hara, they called his fun stick “bootycandy,” so when he grew up he wrote a play called “Bootycandy” that tells the coming of age story of young boy who has to learn what it means to grow up gay and black.

Today, Bootycandy writer director Robert O’Hara who has been described as a cross between Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor and RuPaul joins us to talk about “Bootycandy,” the cultural impact of Obama’s presidency, and how it’s Tyler Perry’s world and we are just living in it.

Also joining us is Chicago actor Osiris Khepera who like Tyler Perry plays a wide range of characters in the play.

You can catch Bootycandy at The Windy City Playhouse.
