FOF #2518 – Solar Eclipse of the Heart – 08.17.17

Once upon time there was light in the sky, now there’s only love for the dark. Nothing we can do, total eclipse of the sun. Fausto Fernós, Marc Felion & Bonnie Tyler. Illustration: Fausto Fernós.

It’s not very often you get to see a full solar eclipse, in fact, for many folks, it’s a once in a lifetime event. This Monday starting at 10am Pacific time in Salem, Oregon a total eclipse of the sun will snake across North America ending at 2:47pm Eastern in Charleston, South Carolina.

We’ll be watching the total eclipse in Carbondale, IL at 1:21pm, and we are excited for all the spooky things you can expect from a full solar eclipse- pets, birds and spiders will start acting strangely, the temperature may drop 20 degrees, the planet mercury will be visible and shadows will look like snakes.

Today we’re taking a look at what to expect from the Great North American Solar Eclipse of 2017, and eclipses in popular culture. Listen as we dive in deep into Bonnie Tyler’s over the top spooky 80s hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and Australian film director Russell Mulcahy who turned MTV in the 80s into a surrealist nightmare.

Apparently staring into eclipses will make your eyes go blind and glow:
