Fan Reactions to Non-Traditional Casting and Whitewashing
Matt Hansen and Tristan Riddell touch on a very important yet sensitive issue this week. We've all seen how fans react when production companies change what some view as important qualities of a beloved character. Some show excitement, others with indifference, or some with pure hate and vile racism. We've seen Non-Traditional Casting more and more recently with comic book movies. Deadshot, Perry White, Heimdall, and now (possibly) Mary Jane Watson. Sadly, we've also have been seeing Whitewashing with movies like Exodus, Ghost in the Shell, and countless others.
This week they ask what does it matter to the characters and why do fans react the way that they do. They also direct these questions inward and discuss how they would react to Non-Traditional Casting with the characters who are most important to them personally.
