episode 44: How Do I Find My Voice?

Do not think you are powerless as a woman, because you aren't.Allyson Peterson, advocate for women

You've heard of the women warriors in the news lately. We have women standing up against abuse, de-stigmatizing victimization, and claiming their strength.

Allyson Peterson, an advocate for women, joins Anne on the free BTR podcast to empower women to cultivate and embrace their inner strength.

Allyson helps women find their voices to speak out against abuse. She has a black belt in traditional Taekwondo and teaches women's self defense classes. As a much smaller woman in stature only, she understands the struggle for personal space and the need for all women's voices to be heard and respected.

Patience, Compassion, and Time: Finding Your Voice

Abusive men condition their victims to feel small, powerless, and weak. Many women have difficulty finding their voice to express their feelings, thoughts, and realities when they have been abused.

Women who are struggling to find their voice can take heart: the process of embracing and cultivating inner strength doesn't happen in a moment, but is a gradual process.

The process of finding our voices takes time and effort.Anne Blythe, founder of Betrayal Trauma Recovery

How Do I "Find My Voice"?

Allyson Peterson shares three helpful tools in becoming empowered:

* Developing clear boundaries* Practicing assertiveness* Letting go of stigma to embrace strength

Tragically, abusive men and predators prey on women who appear to be vulnerable. However, as women accept that they are not weak, but are victims of manipulation and abuse, they are able to set and maintain appropriate boundaries that separate them from the abusive behavior that is harming them.
