Milk Protein: How to Introduce Your Baby to this Potentially Allergenic Food

#13: Milk, egg and peanut are the most common allergies among children. Introducing potentially allergenic foods early and often to babies helps prevent food allergy down the road. If you’re nervous about introducing allergenic foods, start with milk: it’s the easiest to do by far.

In this episode I cover 2 types of cow’s milk protein allergy and how they differ from cow’s milk protein intolerance. If you had to remove dairy from your diet when breastfeeding, in most cases your baby will be able to tolerate dairy and milk foods...and you can bring the dairy foods back to your diet too when your baby starts solids if you’re still breastfeeding.

We don’t replace breastmilk and/or formula with fluid cow’s milk until after age 1. But your baby can safely eat milk foods, milk as an ingredient and yogurt and certain cheese starting at 6 months. In this episode I explain the easiest and safest way to introduce cow’s milk protein to your baby with baby-led weaning starting at 6 months.
