episode 29: Aston Martin's CEO Drama — The Carmudgeon Show — Ep. 29

Andy Palmer, the CEO of Aston Martin, was just fired with no notice — and was replaced by Tobias Moers of AMG fame. What happened? Why? And most importantly: what will happen to the cars?
Jason’s met Palmer and has spent a bunch of time with Moers: what’s his best guess at what happened, and what the former AMG-boss will do for Aston’s lineup? Will the V8 Vantage, DB11, and DBS be fixed so they finally live up to their predecessors?

The DB9 and previous Vantage were as spectacular to drive as they were to look at. The current cars just aren’t. And they’re not particularly good-looking, so it ain’t a high bar.

But financial troubles and CEO drama is a hallmark of Aston Martin’s history, as Derek describes. Aston Martin has had its share of bankruptcies and “receiverships” from even before the David Brown days — and the company has enjoyed multiple Golden Eras. Will the Tobias Moers era be another? After all, many niche brands (Bugatti, Bentley, Rolls-Royce) have done well under German stewardship.

ISSIMI brings trust and transparency to previously opaque and expensive transactions. Jason Cammisa is an automotive journalist, social-media figure, and TV host with over 250 million views on YouTube alone. Jason’s deeply technical understanding, made possible by a lifelong obsession with cars, allows him to fully digest what’s going on within an automobile — and then put it into simple terms for others to understand. Also, a Master’s Degree in Law trained him to be impossible to argue with.

Derek Tam-Scott still tries. He’s a young automotive expert with old-man taste in cars, and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering — which means he knows how to be civil to Jason. Or at least he tries. With a decade and a half’s experience buying, selling, driving and brokering classic and exotic cars, he’s experienced the world’s most iconic cars. And hated most of them.
