In the early 1990s, England had a series of reactions to the grunge and shoegaze movements, the biggest of which was a desire to return to the classic rock stylings of the 60s and 70s. This spawned the movement known as BritPop, whose heyday ran from 1991 until 1997 or so.
Over the next three hours, I'll walk you through some of the key moments in BritPop, play you some of the biggest tunes, introduce you to a bunch of "also-rans" and talk about what ended up causing BritPop's decline (Spoiler: mostly BritPop itself).
It's a fun show, a "best of BritPop" if you will, full of lots of bright and bouncy songs, plus a whole lot of England.
