The Deep

After 2 years of hosting The Deep and holding space for others, I'm ready to share with you one of the traumas that I lived through. When I was younger, I became a victim of domestic violence. I was manipulated, isolated, physically and sexually abused until I didn't know who I was anymore. But I got out. Somehow. And this is my story.Sean Szeps holds this conversation. Someone I trust and tell all my secrets to.Please note. During this chat I may sound guarded or at times unemotional. I know that this is still a trauma response. Because of legal reasons I can't reveal the identity of my abuser so some things need to stay private. It makes this a difficult conversation because I can't share everything that I want to. What I am doing is sharing the full extent of this abusive relationship for the first time ever.Content warning; This episode discusses domestic abuse, physical and sexual abuse, and suicide. episode 1: Invasion Day aka Australia Day

The Deep acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
I grew up being taught to sing the Australian anthem with pride. To celebrate Australia Day with a bbq and drinks! But only in the past few years have I understood what Australia Day aka Invasion Day really means for our First Nations people. I’m confused how we can ignore how painful this day is for so many. I’m disappointed at how little people know or care. So I needed to dedicate an episode to this day with a brilliant woman by the name of AJ, who is passionate about deconstructing Australia Day.
