A top law specialist is pleased the Three Strikes Law is being dropped.
The Government's scrapping the law which was created by Act in the National-led coalition Government 11 years ago.
It meant people convicted of a third serious violent, sex or drug offence should get the maximum sentence without parole.
Criminal Bar Association President Fiona Guy Kidd QC told Mike Hosking the legislation wasn't favoured by lawyers.
“Mandatory sentencing like this, it’s a blunt tool. A blunt instrument to fix the problem; it was not going to work from the start, in my view.”
